WHAT IS HYPNOTHERAPY
"Nothing can harm you as much as your own thoughts unguarded." - Buddha
The term Hypnosis comes from the Greek word “Hypnos”, meaning “sleep”, and we can define hypnosis as an altered state of consciousness, guided meditation, extreme relaxation or focused consciousness.
In therapy, Hypnosis involves the client experiencing a deep sense of relaxation, with their attention focused inward into their inner consciousness, and the therapist guiding the client through a series of healing or therapeutic interventions. These interventions help the client make positive changes within themselves and help them take control or heal the problem or issue that they are facing.

Hypnosis is a very natural state of mind, in fact we enter into a state of light hypnosis many times a day. Let me give you some examples: You are driving your car and you almost miss your turn because you are focused on a specific thought – that is a state of hypnosis. You arrive at your destination and don’t even remember how you got there because your mind was somewhere else – even that is a state of hypnosis. Or when someone is talking to you but you don’t hear a word they say because your mind is focused on other thoughts – that is a state of light hypnosis.

During Hypnotherapy, the client is in an enhanced state of awareness, concentrating on the instructions given by the hypnotherapist. In this state, the conscious mind is suppressed, and the subconscious mind is revealed, which enables the therapist to firmly plant ideas, concepts and suggestions into the client’s subconscious mind. Some types of healing modalities require the client to access even deeper levels of the mind, the 'higher mind'.

There are 3 parts of the human mind:

Conscious mind is the “thinking mind” it is the rational and analytical part of the mind and includes our willpower and temporary memory. This is where we spend most of our waking time.

Sub-conscious mind is the “feeling mind” where our beliefs, emotions, habits and imagination is stored and it is a very powerful part of your mind. This is the mind that we work with in Hypnosis.

Super-conscious mind is the “higher mind” where intuition and higher mental clarity flow from. Accessing this level of the mind can help us immediately draw solutions and access our intuition and guidance. It encompasses the Higher Self and the power and growth of the soul. We access this part of the mind through deep meditation and advanced hypnosis techniques.

Since the subconscious mind is a deeper-seated, more instinctive force than the conscious mind, this is the part that can change the person’s behaviors, beliefs and physical state.
For example, a client who consciously wants to overcome addiction to sugary foods, may try everything she consciously can to do it, using her willpower to stop herself from reaching for that sugary treat, but will still fail as long as her subconscious mind retains this addiction and prevents her from succeeding. Willpower is only temporary. It gives us short bursts of energy to help us get through a situation, but then it fades away.

Willpower cannot affect internal change. Progress can only be made by reprogramming the subconscious mind so that deep-seated instincts and beliefs are abolished, integrated or altered. Once this has been achieved, the individual doesn’t have to use the willpower to overcome additions or limiting beliefs, but it happens easily, naturally and effortlessly.

We use different types of therapeutic techniques during Hypnotherapy sessions, that are tailor made to the client’s specific area of concern. This includes Suggestion Therapy, Transformational Hypnotherapy or Regression Therapy and a specific combination of healing modalities and interventions. Please visit the Transformations section for more details.

However if you have a diagnosed medical condition, please remember that while alternative health protocols are beneficial, they should be used in conjunction with, and not as a replacement for, traditional medical care.
